This is a project that Alt 19 Creative owner, Stephanie Anderson, has been wanting to put out there for years! But How Does It Print is a design guide with over 500 pages on how fonts and graphics print with POD printing, specifically KDP.

This is NOT a how-to guide on formatting. It merely shows what various graphics and fonts look like when printed with KDP.

If you would like a PDF of the book to compare it to the printed book, please send us an email to stephanie at alt19creative.com.   Having the PDF will allow you to compare the print book to the screen view version and help you make adjustments to your own formatting accordingly. WARNING! It’s a very large file.

Below is a video that previews the book.

The book is available on Amazon

InDesign Formatting Template

Here at Alt 19 Creative, we have a passion for formatting and that passion extends to teaching people formatting. Since we can’t format every single indie author’s book (we sure would if we could!), we want to teach everyone how to format the right way, so they can have perfectly formatted books as well.

Formatting is where a lot of indie authors fall flat. It’s the first thing they attempt to take on themselves to help cut the costs associated with self publishing. But at what cost? Formatting is a lot like editing. It takes an eye to get it right. The beauty of it is you can learn how to do it the RIGHT WAY with Alt 19 Creative.

InDesign is the best tool for book formatting. It’s what the publishers use. If you walk into a bookstore, I would bet that 95% of the books (if not more) were formatted with InDesign. Although some of the automated formatting tools available are great if your publishing plan is to only offer eBooks, those tools leave a lot to be desired with print formatting.

But with InDesign, there is a learning curve. Even if you are familiar with InDesign, formatting a book in the program is different and can be daunting. And creating a worthy eBook is an even bigger challenge. We’ve perfected the process over the past ten years and love to share it with those who are interested in learning. And that process starts with a template.

Not sure whether the template is right for you? Here are a couple of YouTube videos about the template:

We offering an InDesign template that puts you on your way to the best formatting an indie author or formatter can have. What’s included:

  • InDesign template that is preset with margin settings, master pages, and various styles.
  • A step-by-step checklist on how to get your manuscript into the InDesign template and adjust the template to your book size and font choices.
  • Training videos on how to use the template to create a print interior and an eBook version.
  • Access to a Facebook formatting group with the ability to ask questions and receive direct answers. New instructional videos are posted often.
