Wraps include design of front cover, back cover, and spine. You will receive a print-ready PDF set to the printer’s template based on provided input from you (trim size, paper color, final page count of formatted document, etc.). If you plan on printing with multiple providers, each printer has a specific template. Additional templates are extra.

Please provide your release date (if known) or let us know when you’d like to have the cover completed by. Please note, we are usually booked out two to three months in advance. Upon receipt of your order, we will reach out with a timeline within 2 business days. We will also send you a questionnaire to complete.

Description

Custom character book cover design is for eBook only. Full wrap available for an additional fee. The first print wrap is $50 (for only one provider such as KDP or IngramSpark). If you plan on using multiple providers, each additional print wrap after the first one is $25. For example, if you plan on using both KDP and IngramSpark, we’ll prepare the KDP wrap for $50 then you can add-on the IngramSpark print wrap for $25.

You will receive three front cover JPGs (various sizes), cover mock-ups in various styles, title PNG, character files, and more.

25% deposit must be paid to schedule start date for cover work. Remaining balance is due before delivery of final full-resolution files. Once you’ve paid your deposit, we will contact you to schedule a start date. We usually are booked out at least two months in advance and the process usually takes a month (for one cover, plan for longer if series). If you require a faster turnaround or an immediate start date, contact us for availability using the Enquiry tab. Rush jobs are available for an additional fee. If you are planning a series, contact us for special series pricing.

Each cover level includes up to 3 character(s) renders or flat illustrations and 3 cover concepts. Once render or flat illustrations and concepts are chosen, we will illustrate using the renders or flat illustrations as guides. You will then receive a draft of your cover. At that point, up to 2 revisions are included in base price. Additional revisions are charged at an hourly rate of $80 per hour unless the revision is based on an error made by Alt 19 Creative. We will consult with you once we’ve reached this territory. Alt 19 Creative reserves the right to post any cover concepts not chosen by client as premade covers available for sale on our website.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR CUSTOM CHARACTER(S) BOOK COVER:

Alt 19 Creative grants the Client exclusive rights to use the custom book cover design (eBook, print, and audio formats) and associated promotional materials. The cover design typically includes characters hand-drawn by Alt 19 Creative. Backgrounds and additional elements may be either hand-drawn by Alt 19 Creative or sourced from licensed stock images, depending on the project.
Alt 19 Creative retains copyright of all original hand-drawn artwork, while stock image copyrights remain with their original creators or providers.

The Client is responsible for adhering to the licensing terms of images and fonts used in the design. Alt 19 Creative is not liable for Client misuse of these elements. Alt 19 Creative will provide licensing information for stock images and fonts upon delivery of final files, and the Client must comply with those terms.

Sales and Usage Policies

  1. All cover sales are final—no refunds or exchanges.
  2. Covers cannot be resold publicly without written permission from Alt 19 Creative, granted only in extreme circumstances.
  3. Retitling fees apply if all files have been delivered and any of the text on the cover needs changing, including updated author name, title, tagline, or blurb. Retitling fees vary depending on the complexity of changes and are charged at an hourly rate. Our current hourly rate is $80. Contact us for an estimate of time.
  4. Rejected cover concepts may be modified and offered as premade designs on our website.
  5. The cover style cannot be reworked by another designer without written permission, only granted in extreme situations. This includes duplication for series extensions. The cover style includes the basic layout, typography, and any hand-drawn elements created by Alt 19 Creative. Stock elements, while part of the design, remain subject to their own licensing terms.
Licensing for Stock Images
When stock images are used, the Client agrees to the terms of the license procured by Alt 19 Creative through third-party providers. The final cost includes these licenses, which may limit usage to a print run of 500,000 units (depending on provider terms). Exceeding this limit requires additional licensing. Most stock images may not be used on merchandise (e.g., t-shirts, mugs) without a premium license. Stock images remain copyrighted by their original creators and may only be used within the book cover design and promotional materials.
Licensing for Hand-Drawn Characters from Alt 19 Creative
For covers featuring hand-drawn characters by Alt 19 Creative, the Client is granted an extended, non-exclusive license to use those characters solely for the agreed-upon book cover and associated promotional materials. If backgrounds or other elements are also hand-drawn by Alt 19 Creative, this extended license applies to those specific elements as well.
These designs remain the exclusive property of Alt 19 Creative, and we retain full copyright ownership. The Client may use these hand-drawn elements on merchandise such as t-shirts, mugs, character cards, bookmarks, and stickers, provided they remain part of the original design.
Alterations to hand-drawn elements must be performed by Alt 19 Creative. If the Client wishes to use these hand-drawn character illustrations in a new cover layout, written permission from Alt 19 Creative is required, which may involve an additional fee. These images cannot be used by a third party, including another cover designer, without our written permission.
This agreement is not a work-for-hire arrangement; it is an extended license for use of our artwork. Should the Client prefer a work-for-hire agreement transferring copyright ownership, fees are significantly higher—please contact us for details.
Add-On Services and Pricing, if not ordered with the original order
  1. Paperback or Case Laminate Wrap: $50.
  2. Additional Wraps: $25 after the first wrap for $50. This is for another paperback or case laminate template for additional service providers/printers (e.g., KDP, IngramSpark, Draft to Digital, Lulu, 48 Hour Books, etc.).
  3. Hardcovers with Dust Jacket: $100.
  4. Audiobook Covers: $25 each.
Clients may prepare their own print wraps using the provided eBook design. In such cases, please credit Front cover design by Alt 19 Creative on the copyright page.
Series Extensions and Pricing
Your cover can be expanded into a series. The discount for additional covers is between 5% and 20%, depending on whether a new background is needed for each cover, and whether that background is stock or hand-drawn. For example, a 20% discount applies if the same background is reused with a different color overlay, while a 5% discount applies for a new hand-drawn background requiring additional effort. Additional print wraps for series are always $25 per wrap.
Series extensions cannot be offered to another cover designer without written permission from Alt 19 Creative.
File Specifications
Your eBook cover is provided in the following formats:
  1. FrontCoverLarge: 6”×9” at 300 dpi (1800×2700 pixels). This image can be used when you need a high resolution version of your front cover (i.e., if you create a print wrap or need your cover printed on promotion material).
  2. FrontCoverSmall: Low-resolution file at 600×900 pixels. This cover is good for embedding into your eBook file.
  3. FrontCoverMedia: Media-resolution file at 1873 pixels wide (universal size accepted by most providers). This cover can be used to upload to your service provider when they ask for the front cover JPG.
Credit Requirement
Please credit Alt 19 Creative on your copyright page for cover design. Sample wording:

Portfolio and Promotion
Alt 19 Creative reserves the right to showcase the cover design in our portfolio, website, and social media for promotional purposes. Once the Client reveals the cover or releases the book, notify us, and we will feature it in our online portfolio, social media accounts, our Facebook page, the Premade Covers from Alt 19 Creative Facebook group, and other cover design communities.
Additional
After the final cover files have been delivered, if you consider recovering or making changes to your book cover (e.g., changing the typography, color palette, or testing new elements), reach out to us as we may have suggestions and can offer a discount (whether for a new cover or changes).
